It’s been crazy busy lately. Long days at work gearing up for 4th quarter and our busiest time, at home trying to juggle getting around with one car, all the normal daily day-to-day stuff. I’ve been frustrated at our weather and the difficulty it’s given me trying to get something more interesting for my Project 365. I got out of work today and still not having a clue what I was going to try to shoot for my picture decided to take advantage of the suddenly sunny skies to hike up Mt. Sugarloaf a bit.
The rains we’ve been having lately and torrential downpours earlier in the day took a lot of the leaves and pinecones down. If I didn’t know the trail as well as I do I’d have been a bit concerned by myself because in places it was nearly indistinguishable from the floor of the woods. With so many leaves, the rains earlier in the day and so many pine cones you had to keep your head down and watch your step so as not to twist an ankle or something. I’ve never seen so many pinecones scattered on the ground before all freshly fallen and still wet with sap.
It was a good thing I was spending my walk with my head down or I might have missed my ‘picture of the day’ or this one. I decided to use the walking conditions to my advantage and really look at things lower than I might usually.
I walked as far as I felt comfortable getting back to where my car was parked before the sun got to low in the sky. I stopped for a little while and just enjoyed the peace and serenity of the woods with only the sound some birds and critters in the brush.
It was just what I needed to feel refreshed, revitalized and satisfied getting some sweet pictures. Walking back down the trail I continued keeping my eyes peeled. The sun was moving lower in the sky and the winds were picking up again. I stopped on the trail and closed my eyes. Feeling the wind on my face and hearing it rustling the leaves. It was a beautiful moment that filled me with peace. Things felt clearer.
